Online CD stores are one of the greatest
aspects of the internet in my opinion.
I could spend days doing nothing but
surfing through different online CD
stores and looking for some new music.
Even though mp3 and iPod format digital
music is becoming huge and has many
advantages over CDs, there is something
nice about having CDs to put on as well.
For years, one of my favorite things
to do with a lazy Sunday afternoon
was to cruise over to some music stores
and browse through different albums.
When they started introducing listening
stations at music stores it was like
a dream come true. I could sit in
a music store going through different
CDs for an entire day. Even if I didn’t
buy anything, I’d come away
with a much better understanding of
what’s out there to listen to.
Online CD stores are the next step
forward, as they not only allow you
to sample the music, but don’t
even require you to leave your home
to do so.
Thanks to online CD stores, I don’t
have to wait for a lazy Sunday to
browse through music, but can do it
with any free five minutes I come
across. In fact, just before I started
writing this I was listening to the
new Modest Mouse album via an online
CD store, and as soon as I’m
done writing this I’m probably
going to go back and buy it because
its already stuck in my head.
Of course, iTunes has also got a
great online music store solely for
the Apple iPod format of music. Apple’s
iTunes and other online digital music
stores are likewise really fun. I
spend a lot of time sampling different
music on iTunes as well, but you can
only get those somewhat annoying Apple
files there. While they working fine
for your iPod, you can’t transfer
them more that a couple times before
the copyright protection program takes
over and basically ruins the file.
For that reason alone, I still like
to keep my CD collection current,
and therefore spend plenty of time
on online CD stores.
There are plenty of good online CD
stores to choose from these days.
I of course prefer the ones that let
you sample the music before hand.
With the fairly high prices on CDs,
I want to make sure I’m getting
what I want before I give out my credit
card number. My favorite site is probably
the online CD store connected through
Amazon.com. They have a great selection,
are easy to use, and let you sample
every song on an album before buying
it.
