Remember back in high school when you
acquired your very first job? It was
most likely a customer service position
at the local grocery store, fast food
joint, or gas station. Did you have
any customer service training after
being hired? Well, probably not. The
boss most likely told you what to do,
and that was about it. In no time you
realize why customer service jobs are
not so sought after. People just aren't
as friendly as they used to be. In more
modern times you can actually attain
customer service training before tackling
a bartending gig or waitress position,
and it will probably do you some good.
I had no formal customer service
training before taking my first job
at a video store. It wasn't a big
deal. I was always friendly to everyone,
even if they weren't so nice. It's
something I excel at. However, after
seeing a variety of other employees
in action, not everyone can take some
criticism so lightly. This is where
customer service training is necessary.
In my 8 and a half years of customer
service jobs, the bartending I did
required the most self control. You
would assume that a job tending bar
at a fancy hotel would be rather dull
and relaxed. This is quite the misconception.
There are a number of business travelers
who drink relentlessly and want you
to bill them like it's a meal simply
so they can charge it to their company
as a travel expense. Then there are
the wedding parties where the women
get vicious when you finally cut them
off. Customer service training will
come in very handy in these situations.
My co-worker was not as relaxed as
I strived to be. She had been working
as a bartender for over 20 years,
and wasn't about to take crap from
anyone. While many might think this
is the way to go, it can certainly
prove regretful concerning complaints
and lack of tips. She is a prime example
of someone who lacks proper customer
service training.
Do you work in customer service?
If so, hats off to your tenacity and
patience. This can be a rather difficult
and gracious-less field to take on
everyday. Many of the newer positions
fortunately have the necessary customer
service training to aid you in the
job. If you lack proper customer service
training and wish to acquire it soon;
you can hop online and take a gander
at the options available. There is
good customer service training at
your fingertips if you do your research.
